Albanian villages of the Krajë region in 1634

In this 17th century document we can read a religious overview of the Krajë region. The villages Tivari, Tugjemilin, Zupçi, Shushanj, Shestan, Muriqi, Ljare, Pinç, Brisk, Ftjan, Sozina, Mërkot, Gjyraç, Gurëz, Dediqi, and Spiçi (Spizza).

“The Antibari (Tivari) Plain has these Christian villages, namely, Toirmilium (Tugjemilin), Zuppam (Zupçin), Susanum (Shushanjin), and these (as they are not far away) are served by the presbyters (priests) of the city; there are also in Sestanium (Shestan), Muricchium (Muriq), Livarum (Ljare), Pincicchium (Pinç), Brischium (Brisk), Stoichium (Ftjan) and Sosinum (Sozina), which have two separate presbyters (priests), and they are all Latin (Catholic), then there are Marcovicchium (Mërkoti), Jurazzum (Gjyraç), Gutezam (Gurëz), Dedicchium (Dediqi) and Spizzam (Spiçi) in which the schismatics (orthodox) dwell with the Pastrovicchis (Pashtroviqët) of above-mentioned, and in the mountains also with the Bielopaulicchiis (Bjelopalicchiis), Pipperis (Piperis) and Bratonozicchiis (Bratonizicchiis), all of whom have their monks and schismatic (orthodox) priests.”
