In Schleimanns publication from 1963 we can read:
“The fustanella is originally an Albanian costume and was adopted by the Greeks only after the revolution. In Albania it has been preserved since ancient times; it is often found on old statues, especially that of King Pyrrhus of Epirus in the Naples Museum.”
