In 1876, the “Augsburger Abendzeitung politischen, historischen u. gemeinnützlichen Inhalts. 1876, 7 – 9” published a series of articles about the Albanian-Montnenegrin frontier battles. Among these, we can read that the priest “Pope Risto” with 300 Montenegrins invaded Albania on July 22, and lost to the Albanian forces.

“Above all, the Montenegrin’s aversion to any strict discipline must be mentioned. The lust for battle often leads the Montenegrins to undertakings that were never intended at headquarters. The corps of Bozo Petrovak and Plamenak (Pllamenac) had the strictest orders to remain on the defensive. On that day, July 22nd, however, 300 Montenegrins rose up under the leadership of Pope Rista and marched into Albania. At 11:23 PM, this force was surrounded by far superior Turkish forces and totally annihilated.”
We also read that the Montenegrins were defeated at Zalom and Nevesinje the same year

” The war map is attributed to Radonich, and it states that he is to be relieved of his corps command. Meanwhile, the Montenegrins are concentrating near Krstaz, where a new clash is anticipated. The following is reported about the battle that took place on July 24th on the Albanian-Montenegrin border: The political correspondent from Ragusa reports on July 27th about the very latest fighting in Herzegovina and Albania: As a result of the significant defeat suffered by the Montenegrins on July 23rd between Zalom and Nevesinje, they initially retreated to Gacko and then further to Korito, where Prince Nicholas was personally present yesterday, the 26th.”
