Serbian propaganda: denoting the Albanians of Pepaj as “Serbs” and “Piperi” in 1871

In this article from the newspaper “List Crnogorac 26” from June 1871, we can read a passage containing Serbian propaganda. In the article, 50 Albanians of Pepaj are denoted as “Serbs” and the Albanian tribe of Pepaj as “Piperi”. Pepaj was an Albanian tribe, and not a Slavic one.

“Долазак Пипера у тада турску Подгорицу 1871.год. “Дивно ли је било погледати онијех 50 српскијех јунака са свијетлијем оружјем у Турској вароши . И сада сви скупа у ми подгорички Срби и Црногорци Пипери посједосмо и веселисмо се вас дан … Лист Црногорац 26.јун 1871 годThe arrival of the Pipers in then Turkish Podgorica in 1871”.

Translation:

“Was it wonderful to see those 50 Serbian heroes with light weapons in the Turkish town? And now all of us, the Serbs and Montenegrin Pipers of Podgorica, sat down and rejoiced at your day”
