The destruction of Egypts Pharaonic heritage by Theodosius of Byzantine

In this publication we can read that, in the name of Christianity, after Theodosius made it the state religion during the Byzantine era, everything that belonged to the pharaohs in Egypt was destroyed. Temples were destroyed while believers were persecuted.

“At the request of Theophilus, Bishop of Alexandria, the Emperor issued an order at that time to remove the pagan temples in that city, and also ordered that this be done under the supervision of Theophilus

Theophilus seized this opportunity and worked very hard to undermine the pagan mysteries. He began by purging the Mithreum, displaying to the public the marks of the bloody rituals. Then he destroyed the Serapeum and openly mocked the bloody acts at the Mithreum (904), showing the excessive absurdities therein.

He ordered the phalli (905) of Priapus (1906) to be carried through the marketplaces. The pagans of Alexandria, especially the teachers of pagan philosophy, could not contain their anger at this display. They expressed their fury through brutal acts of revenge and, as one, at a prearranged signal, attacked the Christians, killing all who fell into their hands without mercy.”
