An interesting moment is the opening of Greek schools for Arvanite children on the island of Speca, where one of the teachers writes that “while I was teaching them Greek, the children were teaching me Albanian”.

Maria Efthimiou, a professor of history at the University of Athens, awarded an honorary prize by the Greek presidency, but also engaged in teaching in numerous settings, gives a lecture here on the Arvanites in Greece.

Without making the usual terminological distinctions, Albanian, Albanian, Arvanites, Efthimiou talks about their role, the language and the fact that Albanian was the local language in some regions of Greece at that time.
