On November 15, 1912, Luma was involved in the flames of the First Balkan War for independence against the Serbian army. During three days, the people of Luma fought fierce battles against a Serbian attack reinforced with the entire arsenal of weapons of the time.

Regarding the heroic struggle of the Lumjans, the well-known patriot from Elbasan, Aqif Pasha Elbasani, would convey this report to the government of Vlora:

“The people of Lumë and a part of Malsija e Dibra adjacent to it, inflamed by the entry of the Serbs into Lumë with the killing and burning of houses, have opposed them and have killed approximately six battalions of soldiers where according to Ottoman data, the Serbian battalions were slightly larger than the Ottoman ones, over 800 and not more than 1000 and they have expelled the rest from Lumë”. This approximately reaches the figure of 5500 soldiers “.

According to Ottoman reports, about 1000 weapons were confiscated from the Serbian forces in Bardhoc, which is thought to be the number of Serbian soldiers who fell in this ambush while returning from Bicaj, where the inhabitants came out together with fighters from Morin, Gjegjni and Përbregu and the villages others.

In addition to the great losses suffered by the Serbian army, in this ambush around the White Drin in the place called Uki i Vjerrë, Islam Spahiu was also wounded, and the following fell heroically:

Hamza Dema
Jemin Dema,
Selim Gërmizi,
Rrahman Duraku,
Ramadan, Shaqir and Zenel Nerguti and Bajram Ramadani from Përbregu and dozens of others from other villages of Luma.

The report of the British vice-consul in Skopje states that in this heroic battle of the Luma people, 8 battalions, about 7000 Serbs had fallen.
