Debunking Serbianisation (Slavicisation) of Albanians of Kërçova and the Serbian cultural appropriation of Albanian Tirqe wool

In the photo we can see Veselinka Veljanovic Najdovic dressed in Albanian wool costume or “Tirqe”. The outfit, characteristic of Albanian folklore and tradition, shows that the inhabitants of Veselinkas village Kërçova were subject to Serbization and Slavization.

Serbian propaganda states that Veselinka Veljanović was “born in 1890 in Kërçova in Old Serbian Empire (now North Macedonia)”. The truth is that the Albanian city of Kërçova had never been Slavic or Serbian in the past, nor was it part of any “Serbian Empire”.
