The Kosovo Police has announced that during excavations carried out in the village of Marinë in Skenderaj, mortal remains were found, which are suspected to belong to persons missing during the 1998–1999 war.
According to the official announcement, the excavations were carried out by the Unit for the Investigation of Persons Missing During the War, in cooperation with the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML).
“Skënderaj, Mitrovica 1998/99. On 29.01.2026, at around 10:00, the unit for the investigation of missing persons during the war, in cooperation with the IML, conducted excavations in the village of Marinë, where bone remains suspected to belong to a human were found. The bone remains were taken by the IML unit for examination,” the Kosovo Police report states.
The authorities have announced that further procedures will continue, while the identification of the remains will be carried out after the relevant examinations by the competent institutions.
