This letter from 1571, sent by Juan of Austria to Gabriel de la Cueva y Girón, addresses a request for military assistance from the Catholics of Albania and Himara to rise in rebellion against Ottoman rule. The text explicitly mentions the Albanian captain Pedro Chuchar, described as “Albanés,” who had been active in Albania and Himara organizing this initiative in coordination with the forces of the Holy League.
