Evidence that Vojsava was Albanian and not Slavic

Evidence that Vojsava was Albanian and not Slavic

by Eneo Xhepa.

In a sixteenth-century source written in Latin, it is clearly stated:

“Coi de Musachia ha generato Voissaua ch’hebbe Ioannem Castriotto signor di Croia, & del contado detto Emathia.”

Meaning in English:
From the Muzaka lineage was born Vojsava, who married Gjon Kastrioti, lord of Krujë and of the region called Emathia (Mat).

This early testimony presents Vojsava as a member of the Muzaka family, and therefore part of the Albanian (Arbërian) aristocracy, rather than a figure of foreign—specifically Slavic—origin, as has been claimed in later interpretations.
