In this RTK interview, Dr. Qazim Namanisays that Albanians have reason to feel proud of the role and solidarity they showed in protecting and rescuing Jews. The Serbian government however persecuted the jews.
“The Hebrews (Jews) of Kosovo were treated very good, in comparison to other countries. The Jews of Kosovo suffered, especially from 1937, when the Serb organization SBOR led by Lotic, who together with the Serbian Orthodox Church, collected the lists of names to to begin the liquidation the Jews of Belgrad. The organization was much satisfied with this.
The Rabbi Isa Kalkai was removed from the Belgrad parliament. The opposite happened in Kosovo, where Albanians protected the jews. According to data by Pavle Gjelotovic Ivanovi, using propaganda against Albanians, tried to accuse the Albanians of having persecuted jews, but this theory quickly fell. He tried to add made up numbers in his book.
According to a reliable source by a Jewish Serb author Qidomir Lincevic who published a Masters Degree, who collected documents from Belgrad verifying the numbers of Jews in Prishtina, which showed that no Jews in Albanian territories were persecuted. Thanks to Albanian leader Mustafa Kruja, part of the government of the Kingdom of Albania (1939-1945), Jews were protected by Albanian customs and law.”
