This text is a commemorative piece remembering the wave of repression against Albanian activists in Kosovo that began on 14 December 1979 and continued through the assassinations of key figures in the Albanian national movement, most notably the Gërvalla brothers and Kadri Zeka in 1982.
“IN MEMORY
On 14 December 1979, without investigation, without publicity, without media coverage or announcements — as always, in complete secrecy — Serbian police forces began arrests, imprisonments, sentences, and covert killings against Albanians. They did not realize that the Serbian occupiers were opening the door to major developments that, years later, would destroy the prison they had built themselves against the enslaved peoples under the guardianship of the Serbian wardens called Yugoslavia.
Thus, the arrests of 14 December began in Dubovik with the handcuffing of Hysen, Ekrem, and Fafri Gërvalla; in Lubeniq of Malë Morina; in Bajë of Peja with Enver and Naser Zekaj; in Lubovë with Ahmet Haxhijaj; in Vrellë with Muharrem and Xhemail Blakaj.
They continued in search of the leader of the underground movement in Prishtina, the giant of the Albanian nation, Jusuf Gërvalla, who managed to escape the handcuffs and flee to Germany. However, the bullets of the Serbian occupiers pursued him and executed him together with his brother Bardhosh and his unwavering comrade in the struggle for freedom, Kadri Zeka, on 17 January 1982 in Untergruppenbach near the city of Stuttgart.
…and the thread of 14 December did not stop. After the murder of Metush Krasniqi (15 October 1986) and Xhemail Blakaj (according to the official version, 8 November 1986), the UDB-a mercilessly killed Malë Morina as well (on 14 December 1986). This thread continued until the disappearance from the map of the artificial creation called Yugoslavia.”
