Oso Kuka and the Battle of Vranina in 1862

Oso Kuka was an early proponent of the Albanian national awakening. In 1862, Oso Kuka, being a border guard at the Albanian-Montenegrin border was tasked with the objective of defending Vranina from Montenegrin attacks. Kuka gathered 62 men and resisted the 8000 Montenegrins who had begun besieging the tower. Oso Kuka had sworn not to surrender, despite many sieges and severly outnumbered with many of his men dying. When the Montenegrins stormed, he opened fire on the gun powder barrells and killed between 200-500 Montenegrin soldiers.
