An incredible Illyrian and Pre-slavic discovery in the region of Sutomore of Montenegro. Archaeologist Zagarčanin, who excavated and prepared the necessary archaeological documentation, said that the grave could preliminarily date from the Early Bronze Age, around 2,700 BC.

“They found a jar of gold! It’s some ancient temple! They say that the tomb is over 5,000 years old – these are just some of the rumors circulating in Sutomore about the event that has been tickling the curiosity of the locals since Friday evening and gathering local archaeologists in Mirište, in the Donja Zgrada neighborhood.
The trigger for this much interest from both science and the general public was, it seemed, a routine excavation of a plot of land in Mirište carried out by Sutomore contractor Savo Milović.
“The owner of the plot, Grujo Adžović, called me to level the plot for him. He wanted to build something there, and there was some kind of elevation, like a pile of stones. It was thought to have been thrown in from the surrounding properties. It had been there for a long time. I started to clear it with an excavator when it got stuck. I thought it was not a large stone.
In the open grave, one could see the rather dislocated bones of the deceased in a crouched position, with their heads turned to the east.
The professional opinion on what is actually located in the beech forest in the immediate vicinity of the bypass to Maljevik is given by archaeologist Mladen Zagarčanin, curator of the Bar Regional Museum.
Emphasizing that this site is known as Mogila na rake, he states that Milović’s excavator hit “a central burial structure made in the form of a chest made of massive stone slabs.” By all accounts, it is a prehistoric tomb!
“After the first investigations, it was concluded that the earthen tumulus was about 15 meters long and about 2-3 meters high. In the open grave, one could see the fairly dislocated bones of the deceased in a crouched position, with the head facing the east, although for the final anthropological picture and conclusion it is necessary to complete the archaeological work. Next to the northern wall was a pot-bellied pot, a jug decorated with zigzag lines imprinted on the matrix and circular ornaments in the middle of the door vessels”, says the interlocutor of “Vijesti”.
He indicates that “preliminarily, based on the vessel with this kind of decoration”, the grave can be dated to the early Bronze Age – attributed to the South Adriatic type of the Ljubljana culture, which dates back to around 2,700 BC.
