A claim that Kosovo Police assaulted a young man at a checkpoint in the Serb majority North Kosovo sparked widespread outrage and calls for intervention, but camera footage later revealed the allegation was false.
A video footage, secured by KALLXO.com, debunks claims of police violence in North Kosovo. In an interview for the local Serbian-language media outlet KosovoOnline, Sasa Blazic alleged that Kosovo police officers had beaten his son Vukasin, during a routine vehicle check at the Bistrica Bridge checkpoint on the Mitrovica-Leposavic road, on the night of January 13, 2026.
Authorities confirmed that although Vukasin Blazic had visible injuries on his body, there was no evidence linking those to police violence. Vukasin Blazic maintained his allegations while giving a statement in the presence of his lawyer, until confronted with the video evidence. According to the case file, he was unable to identify any moment in the footage where police assaulted him.
He eventually apologised adding that he had acted out of anger following the police stop. The footage shows a routine police inspection, conducted calmly and without physical force. Officers are seen searching the vehicle, checking documents, and performing standard pat-downs. Minutes later, the vehicle was cleared and allowed to continue. Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Police Inspectorate,
In line with the law, the Kosovo Police Inspectorate has filed a criminal complaint against Vukasin Blazic for his false declaration. Blazic refused to comment on his motives or his father’s public statements to Kallxo.com.
