While the Turkish Greek, Macedonian Slavs, Serb, Montenegrin, and Bulgarian violently expanded on Albanian territories, committing appalling atrocities, war crimes and expulsions, Albanians, historically, never committed such atrocities against anyone. Albanian Imperialism is a term you will find 0 hits on a Google search. The Slavic-Greek hegemonic, demagogical rule and colonial rule on Albanian territories was a phenomena that continued for 150 years, resulting in Albanian lands being stolen.
Despite Greeko-Slav propaganda claiming to have suffered under Ottoman rule, the truth is that all the Balkan kingdoms did exactly what they accused the Turks of; colonial imperialism. Except they saw fit to attack the Albanian populus. The Slavic and Greek irredentist plans to assimilate Albanians continued, regardless of an alleged heroic struggle against the Ottoman Turks. It is also worth mentioning that the Ottomans often favoured Greek and Slavic interests, which was detrimental to Albanian interests. More on that on this blog.
This means that any claim by Greek or Serbian irredentists portraying Albanians as some kind of loyal subjects to the Ottoman is a false premise, as Albanians were often decieved and killed by the Ottomans, and the Albanian language was forbidden. Comparing to the Slavic and Greek interests, who were allowed schools in their own languages, and their religion was protected by Ottoman law – Albanian interests were not.
All Balkan nations today – Montenegro, Macedonia, Greece and Serbia – are more or less built on Albanian territories. Albanians lived as far as Belgrad, Nish and Toplica, and far deep into eastern Macedonia, and also far south in Greece, as well as Montenegro. Albanians were for centuries the nucleus of all these territories – many of them German and Russian 19th century inventions. Old 15th century maps according to Slavic and Ottoman tax registers verify this.
Many books from western travelers confirm that Albanians were the nucleus of Greece.
Using European and Western support, the imperialist colonial powers of the Balkans used demagogy (claiming Albanians persecuted Slavs and Greeks out of Islamic interests) to rationalize some of the most despicable atrocities and colonialist theft of the century.
Using the Greek and Serbian Orthodox Church, hundreds of thousands of Albanians were violently expelled, killed or assimilated into the modern artificial Greek-Slav identities. The Balkan nations, between 1860-1912, were granted Albanian territories, and its populations mass-converted according to Orthodox interests. Names were changed, and the Albanian language was forbidden both in Greece and Serbia and Montenegro.
Macedonia was more or less entirely created out of the bulk of the Albanian majority population. As was large parts of Albanians in Greek territories, who were then hellenized, or in Serbia, serbicized. Yet very few Serb or Greek authors write about the collective crimes against the Albanian people. There are many articles to be read on this subject on this blog. With sources.
The truth of the matter is that Albanians were the people in the Balkans who suffered most – severely and continuously – from all its neighbors, who like blood thirsty imperialists, saw fit to acquire Albanian territories, while simultaneously assimilating the autochthonous Albanian population, who were natives in both Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Greece.
It is therefore very important, for reconciliation purposes, and for the peace of the Balkans, and Europe, and for there to be catharsis of the past, that all Balkan nations who have committed injustices against the Albanian people, work hard, on all levels, both in government and on local, to enable justice. This in order to make up for Slavic and Greek colonial crimes, by paying war reparations to the Albanian people and the government. But that is not enough.
All Albanians in Greece, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro must have their rights as natives respected on all levels. All discrimination against Albanian citizens must highly punishable by law. Albanian heritage must be respected, and rights and privileges maintained. Any attempt to remove Albanian heritage in all these countries should be prohibited by law, both local and international.
