One of the many legacies of Ottoman occupation in the Balkans is the existence of many Ottoman Turkish toponyms across the region. This map includes settlements still called Chiflik or equivalent, which survived renaming policies after Turks left.

Explanatory Text (bottom left):
Chiflik / Tsifliki / Čitluk is a Turkish term for a system of land management in the Ottoman Empire which allowed powerful military officers to pass on land to their sons. Some villages across the Balkans were founded on this basis.
