The Mayor of Belgrade has made this post on his Facebook profile, calling convicted Serb genocidaire Ratko Mladić – currently serving a life sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity – a “Serb hero”.

An utter disgrace and a sign of how embedded genocide triumphalism is in Serbian politics. As long as Serbia continues to evade a reckoning with its genocidal past, acts like this will continue without any accountability. Indeed, acts like this aren’t and won’t even be the worst to come out of Serbia’s political establishment.
