Another important clue about the birthplace of Skanderbeg from 1652

New documents are coming up everyday. Fra Giacinto da Sospello compiled in 1652 a rare historical document, describing life in Albanian territories under Ottoman rule during 1634–1650.

On page 17, while describing the territories east of Tirana, Fra’ Giacinto writes: “Before entering the mountains of Bendë, in the direction of Mat (Matthi), lies the place called White Stone (Petralba), where the ruins of a castle can be seen, in which, according to tradition, the Great Prince Scanderbeg (Skanderbeg) was born.”

This is currently one of the earliest and most direct historical references (1634–1650) connecting Petralba ( coordinates 41.474804, 20.079504) with the birthplace of Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg.
