May 27 marks the 27th anniversary of the ICTY announcement of indictment of Slobodan Milosevic and other senior Serbian and Yugoslav officials for crimes committed against the people of Kosova, including mass murder, persecution, and the forced expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Kosova Albanians.

It was a systematic, genocidal campaign of murderous violence and terror that tore families apart, destroyed entire communities, and left deep wounds that remain to this day.

Milosevic died before a verdict was reached, but a number of his senior associates were convicted by the UN Tribunal. Many other perpetrators are yet to face justice. What remains important is that international justice has established the facts. The evidence is documented. The historical record is clear.

And yet, Serbia continues to deny these war crimes committed by its state apparatus, while it publicly glorifies convicted war criminals. Such actions dishonour the victims and undermine the principles of justice and accountability.

The truth cannot be erased.
