In 1888, the “Haidaer Wochenblatt: Lokalblatt für Haida, Steinschönau, Zwickau und Umgebung” reported that Serbian hajduks (robbers) were murdering and robbing merchants all over Serbia, and even burning down monasteries. Two Serbian criminals are mentioned: Lasic, on whose head a price had been placed, and Poznanovic.

Cited:
“Robbery is now also spreading in Serbia. While the Bulgarians hope to soon capture the robbers of Bellowa, reports of robbery are coming from all over Serbia. Merchants are being murdered and robbed. Monasteries are being burned down. The abbots of Rawanika and Manusial requested official permission to shoot them. The robbers are even venturing into Belgrade.
On one of the last nights, a notorious robber was apprehended in the old cemetery. The next morning, the robber Lasic, on whose head a price had been placed, was also captured in the city. The outlawed robber Poznanovic was apprehended in the interior of the country. Fear and terror prevail among the population. The inhabitants of Belgrade are collecting signatures for a petition to the police chief demanding energetic intervention and the restoration of security in the country. Shouldn’t these robbers rather be rebels in the Russian pay?”
