Once upon a time, when Kosovo was under Serbian occupation (before 1999) there were many murders of Albanians. These murders against Albanians continued after this year, not in Kosovo, but in the Presevo Valley, where according to official Presevo, 18 Albanians were killed or disappeared after the war, mainly intellectuals, businessmen and politicians, and one child, whose murderers have not been discovered or punished by the Serbian authorities to this day, writes the Swiss Albanian-language newspaper Le Canton27.ch.
The life of the Serbian minority is safer in Kosovo than in Serbia!.. In Serbia last year, 93 people were killed – 17 of them students.. Do these figures deny Belgrade and the EU that “Serbs in Kosovo are endangered by Albanians”?
Since the beginning of 2024, three murders of women in partner relationships have occurred in Serbia, women’s rights activists emphasize that it is necessary to characterize femicide as a separate crime in the Criminal Code and attribute blame for the fact that serious forms of violence are not prevented by institutions.
Every two weeks a woman is murdered in Serbia, femicide is not defined as a separate crime, it is not considered a serious murder, therefore the murderers were given lower sentences.
While today the murders of Serbs occurred much more frequently in Serbia than in Kosovo. The figures are the best evidence of this. In Serbia last year there were 93 murders, among them 17 students in a school in Belgrade (U Beogradskim školam ubieno 17 srpski učenika) have reported Serbian media.
The Swiss Albanian-language newspaper Le Canton27.ch asks how it is possible that more Serbs are murdered in Serbia than in Kosovo, especially when the Serbian and international media, especially the Belgrade regime and the EU, present the lives of Serbs in Kosovo as being at risk from ethnic Albanians, when in fact there are no murders of Serbs there?
If we talk about the murders of Serbs in the Balkans, they are today more at risk in Serbia than in Kosovo, the editorial office wrote. The Republican Institute of Statistics (RZS) announced today that last year 2395 citizens of Serbia died from violent deaths. 1673 men and 662 women died from violent deaths (accidents, suicides, murders…).
Why are we among the worst in terms of the number of murders of women, which failed and how “the system protects itself”, said a femicide in Serbia.
RZS announced that 93 people (57 men and 36 women) were murdered in Serbia in 2023. In the same period, 668 suicides occurred, 496 men and 172 women took their lives.
From 2013 to the end of 2023, 10,469 suicides occurred in Serbia, and the highest number was in 2013 – 1,198. Every month, on average, in the last 11 years, about 80 suicides have occurred in Serbia.
