Many customs have been eradicated over time, some with good reason. It is precisely among them that intercourse is one of the Serbian sex customs which, fortunately, is no longer practiced today.

Snohačenje implies a sexual relationship between the father-in-law and the daughter-in-law, and the custom dates back to the time of the South Slavs. The rank was exercised mainly due to sexual immaturity or the absence of a son. The custom was established in 1878, and they say that it lasted until the withdrawal of the Ottoman Empire from our territory, and that it was eradicated only at the end of the Second World War.

It is claimed that it was widespread in the area of ​​Pomoravlje and in Vranje and that it arose for “purely practical reasons” and was passed down from generation to generation. Namely, when a young man under age married an older, adult woman, in that case the father would perform the marital duty.

Children were often born from the relationship between father-in-law and daughter-in-law, and cohabitation was practiced until the son’s majority. Bora Stanković recorded the traces of this strange custom in his work “Unclean Blood”, and it was allegedly practiced by all classes of society, regardless of ethnicity and religion, and no one considered it a sin. Even those young men whose wives performed marital duties with their fathers, passed this custom on to younger generations and repeated it when they grew up.
