When the Vasojevic tribe belonged to the Albanian Gucia region in 1857

“The districts or communes of Nahia or Baïrak, which together form this province, almost all take their name from the town or village where the commander, Merdir, resides. They are divided as follows: the town of Scutari and its district, Nahia i Scoders; the district of Antivari, Nahia i Tivarit; the district of Dulcigno, Nahia Ulginit; the district of Alessio, Nahia Lesies; the district of Podgoritza, Jabiak and Spouz, Nahiete Spuze e Podgorizes; the district of Goussinié and Plava, Nahiete Guzijs; and finally, the district of Bielopo glie, Nahia e Bulopoj.

The numerous mountain tribes are not part of this division, and although dependent on Scutari, they form separate districts with their own laws and distinct constitutions, taking their names from the race from which they descend or the mountains they inhabit. The Hotti tribe is the foremost of all; after them come the Clementi, Grouda, Castratti, Skrielli, Schiala, and Scossi.

The second-order tribes are Slacon, Temali, Riolla, Possrippa, etc., whose territory includes some villages on the plain. Next comes the Dukagini tribe, located on the left bank of the Drin, which includes the Bairak of Puka Halija and Malisii.

Finally, there is the Wassowitch tribe, belonging to the district of Goussinié, and that of Bielopoglie. Apart from these tribes is the principality of the Mir, said to be the most remarkable of all, whose soil no Muslim foot has ever trod and which, freed from all tribute by virtue of ancient privileges, owes the Porte only the support of its arms.”
