“Since the Turks primarily occupied the country (Serbia) militarily and did not claim any land, the Serbs were able to preserve the distinctive features of their national character, their language and customs, and also their religion. The ever-present memory of their heroic era. Only 260 years later did the Serbs receive further mention in world history.

Through the Peace of Pozharevatz on July 21, 1718, Serbia, along with the Banat and most of Bosnia, came under Austrian rule. However, the Austrian regime failed to gain the Serbs’ support, and in the war of 1738-1739, so disastrous for Emperor Charles VI, the Serbs themselves contributed significantly to the restoration of Turkish rule.”
