The Serbian defeat at Knjaževac (Kujaschewaz) against Turkish forces in 1876

“Regarding the fighting around Kujaschewaz, we obtain the following information from telegraphic reports:

The official Turkish report reads: “Kujaschewaz has fallen in the hands of our troops after three days of fighting. The defeat of the Serbs is complete and all the greater as the enemy had concentrated considerable forces around this place and erected entrenchments, which, however, could not withstand the attacks of our troops. As a result of the bombardment, Kujaschewaz has been burned to the ground.

A Widdin telegram of the N. Pr. reports: “The city was shelled for two days by Turkish artillery. The Serbs returned fire only weakly. On Saturday, an infantry attack took place, and Kujaschewaz was stormed by the imperial troops. The loss of the Serbs is very high.”
