13 people were killed in the early hours of today in the village of Veliko Ivance, located between Mladenovci and Topola, in Serbia.

Ljubisa Brankovic (60) killed 13 people – six men, six women, and a 2-year-old child.

It is learned that after this, the attacker also tried to kill his wife and himself. However, the latter two are reported to be alive and out of danger.

Brankovic first killed his son, and then continued the attacks on his neighbors. Media in Serbia report that there are also injured people.

“We are all shocked. According to the first information I have, it was a normal family and a person without a police record. He had a permit to carry a CZ 88 pistol, from 1981. We know that he participated in the war in Slovenia, in 1991. We are verifying all other circumstances,” the police director, Milorad Veljovic, who immediately went to the scene, told Serbian media. Veljovic said that Brankovic’s injured wife informed him about the tragedy, and that all the victims are his relatives.

Two medical teams from the Emergency Center in Belgrade immediately arrived at the scene, announced the attending physician at the Health House in Mladenovc, Dr. Vasilj Zmiko, according to whom the call to the doctors was made at around 5:40 in the morning.

Doctor Zaklina Simic, from the Emergency Center in Belgrade, said that at the scene of the tragedy, doctors found two women and Brankovic, and that these three were the only survivors.

All the victims were killed in the same way, with shots to the face or other parts of the body – mostly while they were asleep, explained Police Director Veljovic.

According to TV Pink, at around 4:30 a.m., Brankovic entered the yards of his neighbors’ houses and immediately started shooting at them.

“In the Stekic family house, he killed his mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, Danica and Dragana, and then entered the Despotovic family house, where he killed Mikail and Milena, and their nephew Goran Despotovic, his 19-year-old wife Jovana, and their two-year-old son. In the next house, he killed the married couple Velja and Olga, and then, in the Jesic family house, he killed Ljubina and Milos, who were mother and son,” the newspaper ‘Blic’ claims.

Neighbors say that the tragedy happened around five in the morning, and that in the meantime the police visited all the surrounding houses.

“That’s how we found out about the massacre. He was a quiet man. We don’t know what caused this tragedy. We only heard that he killed his son with a shot to the head,” the shocked neighbors say.

Until now, Brankovic had no problems with the law.

Emergency services spokeswoman Nada Macura told Serbian media that the killer was not even registered as a psychiatric case.
