Torture and Execution in Brodec: Albanians mistreated during interrogation

Torture and Abuse in Brodec in Macedonia: Albanians mistreated during interrogation

Exclusively brings to readers a macabre scene during the interrogation of one of the arrested from Brodec. He is chained hand and foot, with a bloody and massacred face, with a bucket in front of him, which may have been filled with water and served the blue forces to bring the arrested person to his senses after he may have fainted. With these images, a conversation takes place between the police and Hebib Ameti.

The policeman, or police inspector, addresses the arrested person with dirty vocabulary, which is not befitting even the biggest thugs. The video, which lasts 2 minutes and 46 seconds, was recorded with a mobile phone in the offices where the arrested people from Brodec were interrogated.

The accused is seen sitting on a chair, his hands and feet tied. In front of him is a bucket and in front of him is a table from which the voice of the person asking questions in Macedonian comes. The arrested man, whose voice is barely audible, and whose name is understood as Hebib Ameti, is wearing a brown vest with the KLA emblem.

The video recording highlights the KLA emblem several times, as well as the dark blue clothes. From time to time, the person asking the question, who in all likelihood seems to be a police inspector, ironically pretends to be sorry for the Brodec incident. While at specific moments, he uses dirty language.

The questioner also tries to obtain as much information as possible from the accused about how the incident happened, how many people were involved, how many people died, etc.

He also expressed a direct interest in the two most wanted police suspects, Lirim Jakupi and Ramadan Shiti. The latter two were also the police’s pretext for taking the action in Brodec, which they dubbed “Mountain Storm”.

From the footage in the video, Amet appears to have been severely beaten. His face is swollen, blackened, and he can barely open his eyes at times. Under great pressure, he admits that he had a weapon, which he threw away and surrendered to the police. He wonders whether or not he saw Ramadan Shiti, while admitting that Lirim Jakupi was also in that group.

Hebib Ameti claims that his brother was killed, but he did not see him with his own eyes. He tells the police inspector this statement in addition to the words he heard in the prison cell from others. He seems tired of the excessive questions and in a way ready to accept anything the inspector wanted for fun.

At the end of the conversation, he admits that he was wrong, while the person who recorded it, describing once again the appearance of Hebib Ameti, left the office, where the accused was questioned.

Otherwise, on November 7, 2007, the police took action in Brodec where six people were killed and 13 others were arrested:

Hanif Dervishi (51), Rametulla Dauti (25), Nevzat Ziberi (44), Shkëndim Dauti (25), Izmet Ameti (55), Habib Ameti (26), Memet Islami (28) from Tetovo are being held in the Shutka prison, Florim Ameti (23), Arian Nevzati (54), Shehir Ziberi (29), Nadi Dauti (48), Baftjar Beqiri (44), Tafil Dauti (40) from the village of Brodec.

All the arrested are accused of “terrorism”, “hostile activities” and “possession and trade of weapons”. (rl)

Macedonian police force Albanian to speak with violence

Horrifying footage of Macedonian police violence in the village of Brodec where in November an action was taken against several Albanians. Top Channel, in cooperation with the Macedonian newspaper “Lajm”, brought shocking footage of one of the arrested, Hebib Ahmeti, being questioned by police inspectors. The video was recorded with a mobile phone for 2 minutes and 47 seconds.

The inspectors, in addition to beating the arrested, insulted him and forced him to admit everything. On November 7, 2007, the police took action in Brodec where six people were killed and 13 others were arrested. Some political entities and human rights organizations raised their voices regarding this operation due to the use of excessive force and terrorizing the residents.

Operation “Mountain Storm” was undertaken to capture the most wanted Lirim Jakupi and Ramadan Shiti, who were hiding in Brodec. The broadcast material further compromises the Macedonian police in relation to the Albanian residents of this country.

Video – evidence of police violence against those arrested in Brodec

A new video, shot with a mobile phone, is presented as new evidence that proves the police violence exercised against people who were arrested during the police operation “Mountain Storm” in the village of Brodec.

Footage from the video has been published in the newspaper “Lajm”. This video, shot during the interrogation of Hebib Ahmeti, one of the arrested, proves the accusations of the Helsinki Committee and other organizations for the protection of human rights.

The footage of the video shows how the conversation takes place between the police officer or police inspector and Hebib Ahmeti. The police officer or police inspector addresses the arrested person with vulgar language. In the video, the accused is seen sitting on a chair, where his hands and feet are tied, a bucket is in front of him, while in front of him is a table, from where the voice of the person asking him questions in Macedonian comes.

The arrested man, whose voice is barely audible, from which the name Hebib Ameti is understood, is wearing a KLA emblem. The video recording shows the KLA emblem several times, as well as dark blue clothes. From time to time, the person asking the question pretends to be sorry for the Brodec incident.

The person asking the question also tries to extract as much information as possible from the accused, how the incident happened, how many people were involved, how many people died, etc.

He also expresses a direct interest in the two most wanted by the police, Lirim Jakupi and Ramadan Shiti. The latter two were also the pretext for the police to take action in Brodec, which they dubbed “Mountain Storm”.

On November 7, 2007, the police took action in Brodec, where 6 people were killed and 13 others were arrested, who are being held in custody in the Shutka prison. All those arrested are accused by the prosecution of “terrorism”, “hostile activities” and “possession and trafficking of weapons”.

REACTION – On the publication of the video recording with the arrested person from the Brodec operation

Skopje, February 11, 2008

The published video recording, which shows one of the arrested persons during the police operation in the village of Brodec, testifies to the violence used by the special police forces during their intervention in this village. The recording confirms all the warnings of the Democratic Union for Integration, the local population and international organizations, that the police in Brodec have exercised great brutality against the arrested persons during the police operation.

The published recording proves that the police of the Republic of Macedonia is still unreformed and continues to serve as an instrument of violence that the coalition of the Democratic Party of Albania and VMRO-DPMNE uses to discipline the Albanian population.

The publication of the video is the strongest reason why the Minister of Internal Affairs, Gordana Jankulovska, should immediately resign. The Democratic Party of Albania, as a participant in the organization and implementation of the police intervention in Brodec, bears responsibility for the ill-treatment and torture that the police inflicted on the Albanian residents of the village.

Therefore, the officials of this party, instead of hiding behind their coalition partner, VMRO-DPMNE, and blaming the Democratic Union for Integration for any of their failures, should immediately provide an explanation as to why Brodec was attacked, why the main persons who were allegedly wanted were not captured, and why those arrested in the operation continue to be held in custody, without their trial having begun.
