Aleksander Vučić’s lie to CNN: Serbia implemented all international obligations, Kosovo none

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić told the American network CNN that the Serbian side has implemented all international obligations arising from the Brussels Agreement, and that Kosovo has not fulfilled one that was due to it – the formation of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.

Kosovo and Serbia began negotiations for the normalization of relations, mediated by the European Union, in 2011.

The parties have signed dozens of agreements, but not all of them have been implemented.

Vučić has claimed that since Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti came to power, 353 attacks have been carried out against Serbs, motivated on ethnic grounds, and that this is the largest number of such incidents since Kosovo’s declaration of independence.

“This year alone, there have been five shooting attacks against civilians of Serbian nationality. Serbs just want security for themselves and their families,” Vučić said.

As REL reports, Vučić denied Kurti’s accusation that he blackmailed Serbs into not participating in the local elections in Kosovo, and asked him if he had seen legitimate democratic elections anywhere, with a little more than 3 percent turnout.

Vučić said that Serbia is satisfied with the statements made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the crisis in Kosovo.

Secretary Blinken said he strongly condemns the actions of the Kosovo Government, which, according to him, are escalating tensions in the north and increasing instability, while Macron said that Kosovo is responsible for the unrest caused.

According to him, Serbia has not violated any international agreements in its response to the crisis.

“We have respected the Kumanovo Agreement and UN Resolution 1244. We have not entered Kosovo with soldiers. So far we have had professional cooperation with NATO troops in Kosovo and I am convinced that this cooperation will continue.”

Asked how he comments on the protests of citizens in northern Kosovo, the Serbian president said that it is very important to maintain peace and stability.

“I know they are determined to protect their homes and I urge them to protest peacefully.”
