Serbia Blocks Humanitarian Aid Shipment For the Albanians of Presheva Valley

A humanitarian aid shipment intended for the Albanian population in the Presheva Valley was turned away at the Vranje customs checkpoint, prompting accusations of a politically motivated blockade.

The head of the Albanian National Council, Enkel Rexhepi, said the shipment was organized with Swedish donors and supported by Presheva Mayor Ardita Sinani. Although organizers say all required paperwork was in order, customs officials allegedly demanded additional non-legally required documents, including a cooperation memorandum.

Even after coordinators signed waivers and attempted to reroute the aid to Kosova in agreement with the donors, authorities continued to impose new administrative obstacles. The Albanian National Council argues the shipment was blocked not because of missing documentation, but because it was intended for ethnic Albanian communities in Presheva, Bujanoc, and Medvegja.
