Serbian Lies and Propaganda in the Belgrade Newspapers of 1876

In 1876, the German “Neues bayerisches Volksblatt” published an article written in the Tag-Pr of July 21, where it is stated that the newspapers of Belgrad continuously published propaganda articles of alleged Turkish atrocities. However all of them tuned out to be fabrications upon investigating.

Cited:

“The Tag-Pr of July 21st writes: The Serbian news service no longer seems to find the fabrication of victories profitable. It has at least reduced the business somewhat in recent days. The reports of Turkish atrocities are being spread with greater vivacity by the Serbs.

One practically wades in Christian blood when reading the Belgrade reports. Slavic-friendly newspapers print the severed heads of Christian old men, the quartered children, and the virgins violated by Asian barbarians in bold type and show them to the world.

But the world knows that most of it is fabricated and that most of the bloody atrocities only take place in the Belgrade press bureau, from where they are then disseminated to the public.”
