President Vučić’s proposal to bring the Western Balkans into the European Union as a single bloc is simply unacceptable. As EDP Secretary General Sandro Gozi made clear, EU enlargement has always been based on the individual merits of each candidate country. Those delivering reforms must not be held back by those moving in the opposite direction.
“Countries that deliver reforms must be allowed to move forward,” while “President Vučić cannot use the region as a shield for his own failures or hold his neighbours’ European future hostage.” The European path belongs to those who uphold democracy, the rule of law and European values—not to those who undermine them.
