The Serbian defeat at Javra and Gladniza (Javor and Gladnica) against Mehmet Ali Pasha of Novi Pazar in 1876

Cited:

“Serajevo, July 8, 11:50 AM. From a Turkish source: The commandant of Novi Bazar, Mehemed Ali Pasha, left Seniza on Thursday night around 3:00 AM with six battalions and headed towards the town of Javra, located within the Serbian demarcation line. He arrived in Gladniza on Thursday afternoon and established a foothold in the fortress located there.

While the Turks took up positions on the hills, they were attacked in the flanks by the Serbs with 18 battalions and 10 cannons. Around 5:00 PM, a bloody battle ensued. The Turks victoriously repulsed the enemy. The Serbs suffered a complete defeat, leaving more than 1,500 dead and just as many wounded on the battlefield.

They retreated in wild flight behind the entrenchments located near Javra. Numerous pieces of war materiel abandoned by the Serbs were taken by the Turks. The Turkish losses are very low in relation to the Serbian ones.”
