More precise data, according to Goran Vasin, a Serbian historian and full professor at the University of Novi Sad’s Department of History, reveal the true extent of Serb participation on the side of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in its aggression against Serbia. According to him, these facts have been systematically swept under the rug for years and decades in order to preserve the myth of a common pan-Serbian aspiration of all Serbs toward a single state.
In his 2019 book Prečanski Srbi u Velikom ratu (The Serbs from the Habsburg Lands in the Great War), Professor Vasin states, among other things, that the role of Serbs in the Austro-Hungarian army has been largely overlooked, especially their significant successes on the Soča (Isonzo) Front, due to the political considerations of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of SHS) during the interwar period.
