The recent discovery of yet another hidden mass grave containing the remains of people who were massacred underscores the urgent need to demand that Serbia’s President Vučić, who served as Milošević’s propaganda minister during the genocidal war against the people of Kosova, end Serbia’s obstruction of investigations into Serbian war crimes and release all state, military, and security files needed to locate the remains of the victims and return them to their families for a dignified burial.
Every new site investigated, every set of human remains examined, and every identity restored is another step toward truth and justice. These efforts are first and foremost for the families, but they are also about establishing the truth and, finally, holding the perpetrators responsible for their atrocious crimes.
Serbia needs to face its criminal past, its crimes, and finally stop blocking the search for the remains of the victims and the search for the truth. The civilized world needs to hold Serbia responsible for these crimes and needs to pressure its leaders to bring those responsible to justice.
The Republic of Kosova demands that the international community and the civilized world demand that President Vučić and his political allies provide concrete cooperation or otherwise face sanctions.
It would be an act of complicity to remain silent or refuse to demand consequences for Serbia while the victims and their families continue to suffer from the atrocities committed by the Milošević regime, alongside his propaganda minister, Vučić.
