On September 23, 1876, the Fr. Bresse reported from Besanica (Beşanica) that the Serbian forces had violated the truce with the Turkish commander at the region of Trojan near Peshter and Novi Pazar. This was verified by English militia trooper General Campbell and Turkish commander Ahmed Ejub Pasha who confirmed that the Serbs attacked first.

“Nish, September 23. From the Turkish headquarters in Beshchaniza (Besanica), N. Fr. Bresse receives the following report: Yesterday evening at 11 p.m., the Serbian outposts attacked the bridge built by the Turks near Trujan and alerted the Turkish camp. Suleiman Pasha’s division had to advance towards the bridge.

After an hour’s fighting, on the hills of the Serbian position, signals of fire were sounded, whereupon the Serbs broke off the engagement. The corps commander, Ahmed Ejub Pasha, and the English militia trooper, General Kembell (Campbell), who immediately rode to the bridge, personally confirmed that the Serbs had attacked first. (The Serbs, on the other hand, accuse the Turks of violating the truce.)”
