In this interview, Albanian doctor Kastriot Melyshi states that the Serbs crossed the Danube in order to live a better life in the lands of the Illyrians. The Serbs (Slavs) then became servants. Albanians never knew of slavery, and freedom was fundamentally part of the Albanian (Illyrian) way of life. The plis (qeleshe) was the symbol of freedom. When a slave in the Roman empire won his freedom, he would wear a white skull cap.
Melyshi continues:
“When the Slavs entered the Roman empire, in the lands of Illyria, they began their life as servants of the Romans and Illyrians. However, due to the fear of being without a job, the Slavs eventually began to expand, invade and take over the lands of the Illyrian hosts. “
The Albanian never knew of slavery or of being a foreigner
“The Albanians always lived free of fear, as they had always been autochtonous in their homes – they had never entered someone else’s home. Freedom from fear is the same as freedom. Freedom is the same as God, as only God is truly free in this life. “
The Serbs began their journey as servants, and then revolted and took over the homes of their masters
