The Montenegrin defeat against Dervish Pasha at Sukol and Yeni Köi (Novoselë) in 1876 near Shpuzë and Podgorica

Cited:

“Scutari, Oct. 17, 2:50 PM. As the Montenegrins repeatedly harassed Turkish troops with their attacks, Dervish Pasha dispatched a force on Saturday, the 14th—comprising 31 infantry battalions, 500 Zeibeks, some volunteers from Mali Izvor, and a battery—against Novoselo (Yeni Köi); after a four-hour battle, they captured the village and the surrounding fortifications. Since the houses in that area are mostly thatched with straw, 200 houses in Novoselo and Sukol caught fire due to the artillery and gunfire. The Montenegrins left 400 dead and just as many wounded on the battlefield.”
