Montenegrin Cannibalism: building a tower from decapitated Turkish heads in Grabovac in 1858

In 1858 the “Ilirske narodne Novine” reported, among other things, that Prince Danilo Njegos had allegedly ordered a tower to be built entirely of decapitated Turkish heads in the region of Grabovac (Grabovcu), and the prince would pay 6 dinars per head.

Quote:

“Vele da je knez naredio napraviti kulu na Grabovcu, i to od samih turskih glava koje su ostale u bivšem velikom boju. Svakom daje po šest dinara koji glavu na mjesto građevine donese.”

Translation:

“They say that the Prince has ordered a tower to be built on Grabovac, and that from the very Turkish heads that remained from the former great battle. He is giving six dinars to everyone who brings a head to the place of the building”.
