Exactly 35 years ago, on October 3, 1989, Luigj Naser Shatri from Tomoc, after arriving from Sweden, was forced to go to “information talks”, invited by the Serbian inspector of the UDB in Istog, Tomislav Babović. He had questioned him at length, “sifting” him about everything from his life, his family and his national life.
Naser had a close relationship with Babovic, the cruel cadre of the UDB. Without hurting anyone, he “would not let go” of the young man from Tomoc, who had been forced into exile by difficult life circumstances.
That day, exactly 35 years ago, filled with grief, Babovic slapped Naser, forgetting, lost in the tragic grandeur of a Serb who thought he could rule and humiliate the Albanian majority of Istog and Kosovo, that in front of him was a young man with an athletic body, so developed and a karate-master at the same time.
In self-defense and as they approached him, Naser pulled out his gun from his belt and shot him several times with his gun’s bullets. Babović was then transported by helicopter to the Belgrade Military Hospital (VMA), where surgeons saved his life, but he remained a lifelong invalid.
After this act of self-defense, Naser Shatri, without food, drink, or proper clothing, attacked the mountains of Istog, where he reached Tutin (a municipality in Sandzak, Serbia), which Serbia, from being one hundred percent Albanian, as it always was, managed to Islamize and Bosniakize.
And so, Nasser, with great and indescribable hardships and suffering, after a while you arrived in Switzerland.Naseri Shatri was a prominent KLA commander in the Dukagjin Plain. However, the “shadow of Babovic” – of the Serbian bloodthirsty thug who left people in peace in his own country, and who at that time had even taken Naser’s passport to blackmail him, has followed him throughout his life. Until today.

With Luigj Shatri, at my home in Gurrakoc
Naser was a classmate of mine from the “Vasilije Gjurovic” Primary School in Gurrakoc (now named after Martin Camaj), and he told me about the suffering that UDB caused him every time I met him.” I was detained several times by INTERPOL across Europe, but at that time, in the 1980s, I had a Swedish travel document, and that meant they didn’t have the right to return me to Serbia…”, Naser told me.
But, recently, I was arrested by INTERPOL in Austria, precisely at Vienna Airport, on January 21, 2006, where I was held for 6 months in detention. Later, they returned me to detention in Kosovo, to re-trial me after a year of detention, in Dubrava. And after the retrial, I won the case and to this day I am free…, he told me.Naser recalls the bitter fact of his life that he was banned in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, and Austria.
Even after the war, he says that he was detained in Qafë Thanë by the Albanian police, where after four hours of detention, he was released. Always because of the “Babović Case”…!. He was a born athlete, a true acrobat, since when we went to school in Tomoc Meadows with him, Rexha and Shefki, he would walk on his hands for almost a kilometer.
After the 1999 war, Serbia, through INTERPOL, managed to arrest him in Vienna, Austria, where he had almost been sent to Belgrade! There, Naser told me, Agim Çeku, the commander-in-chief of the KLA, had visited him.”I don’t know how I’m still alive…”, Naser Shatri confessed to me.
The “ringleader” of the Peja UDB from 1981 onwards, the Albanian-speaking Sh.B., had “left a rumor” that “he chose Babović as an operative, because he was weak…”. It means that, according to the UDB’s rumor, Naser seriously injured a man who was untalented for his job, because if he were skilled and capable, he would not have been able to injure him!
The goal of “our UDB members” was to diminish Nasser’s, and not only his, heroic deeds in self-defense. “Our” UDB members… have always lied to hide the traces of their crimes, their wickedness as mercenaries.
“Talented”, according to that great UDB-ashi, can only be his chosen one who has beaten Albanian prisoners with electric shocks and who, after the war, instead of feeling remorse for the hostile actions against the people of the people to whom he belongs, with party elbows rushes into positions and duties that they have not met in the new Kosovo.
After writing this review of an event that had a great resonance in the then Yugoslavia, I called Luigj Shatri and asked him if he had any objections to the brief description of the event in which he himself was the protagonist, as one of the countless Albanians of Kosovo who were captured.
Luigj Naser Shatri said that if I had been killed 35 years ago in the UDB office in Istog, surely many people would have gone to his grave today!
A truly ironic statement about post-war cynicism, and the mad love for the dead.
Of course, this is propaganda for electoral votes…!

In the courtyard of the Gurrakoc House, I drink coffee with Luigj Naser Shatri
At the moment I feel happy,” Luigj Naser Shatri told me that day at my house, “because the Kurti Government has extended the sovereignty of the state to the north of the country.”As a veteran of the KLA, the brave man of difficult times emphasized, I am ready to mobilize again if the country needs it.
The main thing is that Naser Shatri is alive and has done everything in his power for his people and country, without the need for others to falsely recognize his merits!
I wish Naser Shatri good health, sportsmanship like before, and a long and happy life.
Meanwhile, I conducted a short interview with Luigj Naser Shatri about his return to Christianity, a religious return that caused a great stir, not only in the state of Dardania, but throughout the Albanian areas of the Illyrian Peninsula and beyond.
Naser, a while ago you returned to Christianity (Catholicism), a return that caused a great stir everywhere; being welcomed by almost all Albanians, with some minor criticism from Islamicized Albanians… How did you come up with the idea of returning to Catholicism…?
Luigj Shatri : We came to Tomoc from Isniq and I know from the stories of our parents, grandparents and others who had passed down from generation to generation that our conversion to Islam had been bloody, carried out with great violence and terror.
I heard from my parents and their ancestors that for a long time the family, women and children, had to keep the faith of their Catholic ancestors in secret, because the leaders of the Turkish-Ottoman army (the soldiers, the soldiers of that empire) did not allow any religion other than the Muslim one to be practiced.
That, “whoever is the conqueror, the religion belongs to him!” Thus, generation after generation, the Islamic religion remained “at the door”. Like many of us… They formally practiced Islam on various religious holidays, especially “for Eid”.
However, in order for the evil to come out of this work, to reveal the anti-Albanian purpose, I tell you after the war. The entire post-war period in Kosovo went on as no one had believed, with Islam strengthening through cult objects that were built secretly and without asking any Albanians, except for Islamists who were trained in mosques, so to speak, illegally.
So, in the end, we noticed that the Albanian Freedom, for which we had fought for generations, was turning into Muslim Freedom! Eee, it can’t go on like this, I said to myself, it’s not just me…!
Does it mean that the Islamization of the nation, which was hindered by state policies, encouraged you to return to the religion, the faith, of your ancestors…?
Luigj Shatri : Yes… We came to a state where we could no longer tolerate such disfigurement. They began to be paraded in front of our noses, at our feet, within our families, everywhere, with a tragic Muslim pride, almost as if we were not Arbëror, as if we were not ourselves, Albanians with roots.
We came to a situation where we came to understand that the evil within us could not be stopped by persuasion, by debate, but other, clearer measures had to be taken, because they were “using sacred methods” giving the contours to another nation, that Muslim one. And neither I nor any other Albanian wants this nor does he accept it.
Of course, we talked about all this at length in our immediate and wider family. There were disagreements, but no one opposed me.This shows that our people have missed Albanian propaganda after the country’s freedom. My act, therefore, is an act of free, clear, nationally benevolent decision and a humane act to the end.
I feel happy that the people have begun to wake up and are noticing the great deception with religion, for completely foreign purposes. My act should also be understood as an act of reaction to the evil within us, to what cannot be considered ours in any way. Simply, after this act of returning to Catholicism, I notice that I have returned to my Albanian family, which anti-Albanianism has had and intends to destroy. While we, none of us, will allow destruction for foreign interests.
Has the return to Christianity had an impact on your society…?
Luigj Shatri: I can say that the return to Catholicism was received quite well, by almost everyone, and that made me happy. There is no opposition anywhere, no open opposition, whether in the family or in the village. Nowhere…!I think that this “chaotic” situation has been created to a large extent by the lack of state policy in favor of the nation.
But, everyone will soon understand that for the so-called “electoral votes” the nature of the nation must not be affected or endangered. If our neighbor, Serbia, continues to be nationalistic to the extreme, then we too must turn to ourselves and show maximum care towards the nation.
Since, as you say, your return to Christianity has been warmly welcomed by your family, relatives, and the people, can you tell me if you have had any disagreements from those known to be people in institutions…?
Luigj Shatri : From the majority of people I have contacted and who have heard about my act, their opinions have been the best possible, but, to my surprise, I received a phone call from the mayor of a commune, who instead of congratulating me, told me that:”You shouldn’t have converted to Christianity!”
It was a big surprise for me, as I was not in a position to repay him as he deserved. He should not interfere at all in matters that concern the intimacy of a person, that concern me and no one else. However, I, Luigj Naser Shatri, do not ask much about my problems and interests, which others have no right to deal with.
Especially, people in institutional life, who have an obligation and duty to be impartial and not allow themselves to stoop to the level of lecturing others, have no right to deal with such things, when they have no right to and are not asked to give such advice.
