“Turkey. According to information received by Die Presse from Ragusa, Hobo Beg of Tuzi sent the following report to the League’s committee on July 24 regarding the recent clash between Albanians and Montenegrins:

“After the Montenegrins invaded our territory and plundered crops there, I ordered our men to attack them. The Hoti, Gruda, and Kelmendi tribes—later reinforced by those from Reç and Podgorica—attacked the Montenegrins and defeated them all along the line at Semerica and Fundina.

The Muslim Mirditas, led by Kola Aga, joined the fray after the Montenegrins had already killed thirty of our men, and they brought back six heads as trophies. The Hoti also killed many of the enemy, though their bajraktar (leader) was severely wounded. Our death toll stands at 44 men.”

Reports from Scutari reaching Die Presse state that the Montenegrin battalion—which had been attacked by Albanians on the 12th of the month—launched a counter-attack on the Albanian villages of Matagosh [Matagush] and Kruzi [Kruše] on the 23rd; during this operation, they razed the villages and inflicted heavy losses on the Albanians. Incidentally, it is reported that a Montenegrin priest was captured during this action and beheaded by an Albanian in Tuzi.”
