“The thirteenth armistice agreement had barely been signed and the Serbs launched their decisive offensive. They used their military superiority mercilessly, firing on houses, churches, hospitals and kindergartens. Their strategy is terror. The residents of Vukovar hid in cellars, some in ruins (“destroyed buildings”), or in the sewers, without heat, water and food. 12,000 people were desperately waiting for help. Europe wouldn’t just watch, they hoped, but in vain.”
