An analysis and study by researcher Refik Hasani
The unresolved issue of the Preševo, Medveđa, and Bujanovac region—specifically the deactivation of the addresses of ethnic Albanian citizens—is increasingly gaining attention in international media. In this context, a study by researcher Refik Hasani, titled:
“Research on the administrative, demographic, political, and discriminatory effects on the indigenous ethnic Albanians in Serbia,” addresses one of the most sensitive issues directly affecting the civil rights, identity, and status of the indigenous Albanians in this part of Serbia.
Particular attention is given to the administrative, demographic, and political consequences of the deactivation of addresses, as well as its impact on the daily lives and the exercise of fundamental rights by Albanian citizens.
It is encouraging that this issue is also being covered in the Italian press.
The newspaper “Rrënjet – Le Radici,” No. On September 4, 2026, on page 14, space was dedicated to this research and to an issue of particular national and international significance.
Special gratitude and thanks go to the editorial staff of the newspaper “Rrënjet – Le Radici” and to its editor, Mr. Hasan Aliaj, for their contribution to highlighting this matter and to bringing international attention to concerns regarding the “passivization” of addresses—a form of discrimination—and its consequences for the indigenous Albanian population in Serbia.
This issue should not remain merely a local or regional concern. It warrants the attention of international institutions, human rights organizations, and all relevant European and international stakeholders.
The “passivization” of addresses should not be treated merely as an administrative procedure; rather, it must be examined in light of its impact on the civil rights, political representation, and demographic future of Albanians in Preševo, Medveđa, and Bujanovac.
The truth must be documented, publicized, and brought to the international stage.
